(*500 print edition in each size, plus 50 artist’s proofs and 50 printer’s proofs)This word asks “Are you ready!” and you will hear the Kumu Hula shout it out just before a performance. The dancers then answer, “Aye” (yes) and step out. Understanding the term is more than just the words. It means, “Are you ready spiritually, are you one with one another, with the earth, with the chant and the mele, with this moment in time.” The unbelievable focus that it takes for 10 to 30 people to step and perform in perfect unison can only be understood by someone who has achieved it. With hula the dancer uses the whole body, mind and soul with perfect focus. If we could learn to apply this to all aspects of our lives what miracles we would achieve.
